Jasmine's Easter present

At our end of day Mokihi assembly, Jasmine showed an amazing box of birds eggs that has been passed down to her from her Great Grandmother. We were able to look at pictures of all the birds.
The biggest egg was from a Black Swan and the smallest is from a Fantail.

Holy Week Services at School

This week, Reverend Helen has been talking to the children in assembly
about the events leading up to Easter. She has been assisted by Revd. David Winfield
who provided dramatic characterisations to enhance the services. His portrayal of Judas
was very impressive.
Charlotte, Charlie and Lily had their feet washed on Tuesday by Revd. Helen.

Planting Seeds

After visiting the Schools' Garden Show, Tania (Toby's Mum) kindly bought us a box full of seeds, containers and dehydrated dirt. After decorating and labelling our containers, we watched the dirt capsule expand like magic on Friday. Hopefully our seeds will be poking through soon!

Shapes in the Playground

We walked around the playground taking photos on the ipad of interesting shapes. Learning to name and describe a rectangle, circle, diamond, square, triangle and a hexagon is the focus. We will also look at 3D shapes.

Belonging in Kereru - Interests in Common

Sunday 20 March
For our Topic time on Friday, the children worked in groups with others who have similar interests.
There was a group of musicians learning how Garage Band works on the Ipad,  groups of scientists investigating shells, the way the world works and magnets, a group of avid readers reading Chapter books and a group of artists drawing shapes in 3D. We will explore these common interests further throughout the year.

Tī Kōuka team in actionThe Monarch Butterfly

The monarch butterfly life cycle has been fascinating for children and parents. Three chrysalis and three caterpillars have been a great distraction. We even saw a caterpillar turning into a chrysalis thanks to the sharp eyes of Ruby T.

Monday's excitement for box construction and dominoes building had to be seen to be believed. We had been collecting boxes for weeks. The fall out area of boxes can be seen through the leaves of the swan plant, as can the children's joy. Please do not think that this is the end if being pestered for boxes. We ALWAYS want boxes.

Playdoh / playdough names

We had a few minutes yesterday and several people made their names from dough. Here is just a small
taster of their results - enjoy!
